Victories to Dakshin Guwahati Junior College and Rajdhar Bora HS School take them to Nationals

The Guwahati finals day at Nehru Stadium started with two contrasting albeit equally gripping contests, in the Senior girls and Senior boys categories. The girls’ game was a low-scoring thriller won by Dakshin Guwahati Junior College 1-0 while the boys from Rajdhar Bora HSS clinched their final 4-3 through a penalty shootout.

Senior girls

Dakshin Guwahati Junior College vs Royal Global School

Dakshin Guwahati College (DCJ College) edged ahead of Royal Global School (RG College) 1-0 to take the trophy in the Senior girls category in Guwahati and book a spot in the RFYS National Championship. Sanjwami Brahma scored the winning goal for DCJ College, for which she was presented with the golden boot award. For her outstanding skills at the goal post, DCJ College goalkeeper and captain Jyoti Tumung was awarded the match ball. Tumung also walked away with the golden glove and golden ball.

Senior boys

Dispur Academy vs Rajdhar Bora HS School

The Senior boys final in Guwahati was worthy of the big game. It was a battle of fightbacks as the pendulum swayed in either direction. The scores were tied at 2-2 after regular full-time. In the end, Rajdhar Bora HSS emerged victorious by 4-3 after a penalty shootout.

The first session of play was dominated Rajdhar Bora HSS with their superior skills in the midfield. Milan Das got them a lead in the 29th minute. The second half was a different story altogether. In what was a tremendous fightback, Dispur Academy scored back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 lead with about 20 minutes left in the play.

With scores level at 2-2 , the match was decided through a penalty shootout, in which Rajdhar Bora edged past Dispur Academy.

At the conclusion of the final, Dispur Academy’s goalkeeper, Pratap Singh, received the golden glove award while Montfort School’s Kenny Nongkynrih won the golden boot and golden ball.
