Local Kung Fu 2’s crowdfunding campaign a grand success
Guwahati, April 3, 2017: Assam’s favourite martial arts film is definitely coming back this April! The crowdfunding campaign started by the Local Kung Fu 2 team, on Wishberry.in, came to a successful closure yesterday. With a total sum of Rs. 8,86,081 pledged by 478 backers, the campaign raised a successful 111% of the amount that was required to fund the post production of the film.
Takingto YouTube to thank the supporters, actor-director Kenny Basumatary uploaded avideo early on Sunday morning. Speaking from his paternal villagenear Rowta, Kenny said, “A big thank you to all thecontributors who made our crowdfunding campaign a huge success. Of course, wehave got no time to rest now. We need to start the censor process as soon aspossible. The Mumbai censor committee that we got for Local Kung Fu were agroup of really nice people and hopefully the Guwahati committee will also haveprogressive people who help us out quickly.”
LocalKung Fu, released in 2013, became a pop culture phenomenon in the Northeast asthe dialogues still find their way into regular conversations. With Local KungFu 2, director Kenny Basumatary has adapted William Shakespeare’s Comedy ofErrors for the silver screen. Scheduled to be released on April 19, thefilm has been shot in both Assamese and Hindi and will be the first ever sequelin Assamese cinema.
Commentingon Local Kung Fu, noted actor Adil Hussain had said, “I saw the film and endedup laughing all night.” Singer and actor Meiyang Chang described the film as“absolute fun”.
Nowthat the crowdfunding campaign is successful, the film awaits the censorboard’s approval to move ahead with the release.
