1Guwahati May 30: Legal Cell for Human Rights (LCHR) Guwahati is facilitated logistic support in organizing a three days long (28 -30th May, 2014) Para Legal Volunteers training programme for 56 Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) from the district of Kamrup, Nalbari, Darrang and Nagaon at Northeast Diocesan Social Forum Kharghuli organized by Committee for Legal Aid to Poor (CLAP) Odisha in association with Assam State Legal Services Authority (ASLSA). In the inaugural session of the training programme Mr.Ravi Sagar, Director of LCHR, spoke on the need and necessity for access to justice especially in North eastern India.? Further he said about the current programmes of department of Justice under the Ministry of Law and Justice.? He welcomed the esteemed guests Dr. Pratima Devi Sarma, chairperson of the State Social Welfare Board, Mr. P.K.Saikia, Member Secretary of ASLSA, Ms.Namrata Chadha CLAP Odisha and all the participants. Dr. Pratima Devi Sarma spoke on availability of various welfare schemes and facilities provided by the State for Women and Children.? Mr. P.K. Saikia spoke on the concept of Para Legal Volunteers and he explained the role of PLVs, stressed on duties of PLVs.? He encouraged and motivated the PLVs to continue to help their Society.? Ms. Namrata Chadha, CLAP Odisha gave a keynote address pointing out the main topics that will be dealt during the training programme.? The invited Resource persons Mr.D.K.Mohanta Retd. District & Sessions Judge, Kamrup, Mr. Pranab Kumar Sarma Advocate Gauhati High Court, Mr. Satya Narayan Boruah Advocate LCHR, Mr. Kamal Kishore Goswami Advocate Gauhati High Court, Mr. Amal Dutta Advocate LCHR enlightened the PLVs on different topics. In the closing session of the training programme Ms. Felcita, LCHR thanked for all the Resource persons, CLAP, ASLSA and the participants.
