State Department of Agriculture organizes the 2nd Assam International Argi-Horticultural Show
February 12, 2015; Guwahati: The Department of Agriculture, Government of Assam, officially announced the dates for the 2nd Assam International Agri-Horticultural Show 2015. The show is being held at the College of Veterinary Science playground in Khanapara, Guwahati from February 10, 2015, the show will focus on technology, innovation, inspiration in agriculture, horticulture, floriculture and allied sectors. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi inaugurated the programme on 10th February, 2015 at 11:30am in the presence of many other dignitaries from the region. Organized by the state Department of Agriculture, in association with Indian Chamber of Commerce and Assam Agricultural University, the show is planned for increased exposure to innovation and inspiration in agriculture and horticulture. The 5-day show will have participation from various countries including US, UK, Germany, France, Australia, Israel, Italy, China, South Korea, Netherlands, Canada, Thailand, Nepal, and others. In addition to the seven sister states, most Indian states have come to participate in the show. The show is also conducting seminars on various issues in tropical horticulture, floriculture, and agriculture. The first Assam International Agri-Horticulture show held from January 8-11 last year saw participation from 28 countries besides having 70 national and 320 state level organizations. The 4-day free-entry show registered more than 1.5 lakh footfalls. This year, it is expected that the numbers will pick up. The state department of agriculture expects the show to establish a chain of organized flower markets in the state, starting with Sukleswar in Guwahati, Jorhat, Kokrajhar, Dibrugarh and Silchar. The department also envisions creating a flower growers? group in every district of Assam. Above all, facilitation of training of different stakeholders to upgrade the quality of flowers and its value added products as a commodity is one of the aims of this project. Envisioned to exhibit latest research and development advancements in the Agri-horti fields, the 2nd Assam International Agri-Horticultural Show 2015 will also help promote Assam as an ideal sourcing destination for agri and horti products besides raising awareness about these products and building brand Assam in the global arena. The show has brought various governmental agencies, farmers, industry experts, academia and various policy makers on a common platform, and is also expected to attract national and international investments in agri-business sector in the state. The show hosts various workshops, buyer-seller meets and will focus on creating awareness of various schemes of the state and the central government. Like the last year?s maiden show, it is expected that this year?s show also have a wide range of advanced farm machinery, green technology, agribiotechnology, advanced fertilizers and pesticides, storage equipments, seeds and seedlings, post harvest handling equipments on display. Besides, various international traders, soil experts, packaging experts, other suppliers, business consultants, financial institutions etc are among the exhibitors. The show also imparts hands-on training to farmers and entrepreneurs in organic farming, commercial agriculture, and advanced farming system. There are competitions on potted flowers, bonsai, medicinal plants, fruits and vegetables, spot salad preparation and other decorations.? An ethnic food festival is also being organized.
