NESCOM Organizes Two-Day Workshop on Media
North East Social Communication (NESCOM) organized a two day workshop in North East Social Forum, Guwahati, earlier this week, for the media persons of the NE region. Fr. Joe Eruppakkatt ssp and Mr. Michael Peria, experts in Journalism and New Media respectively, addressed the 55 participants. The participants tip toed into the hall to learn journalistic skills and to be at home with social media and web apostolate. Fr. Gilbert ssp, the Director of NESCOM said in the inaugural speech,? let us be a communicating church to be relevant today?. Fr. Eruppakkat, from Mumbai, pointed out the importance of media in the proclamation of the Good News. The topics of the workshop included: The why and how of Christian writers, Qualities needed for Christian writers, News gathering and news writing, Feature writing, interviews, Citizen Journalism.? Mr Michael Periya, from Hyderabad, spoke on Websites, Process of website designing and Management, Social media, How to apply the social media in ministry, etc. Most Rev. George Palliparambil, the Bishop of Miao, and the Chairman of NESCOM while celebrating the Eucharist for the participants on the second day, expressed his joy and satisfaction at the overwhelming response to the workshop. He thanked Fr Gilbert, SSP for his initiatives and the resource persons for their services to the church of North East India. He reminded the participants that as they return to their own mission fields they need to put into practice what they have learnt from this workshop. He said, ?Let us remain focused to make our life more relevant and appealing to the time?, At the end of the workshop the participants spent time evaluating and making plans for future. All were unanimous that there should be follow up programmes with longer duration and more practical sessions. One of the participants, Sr Sania FMA, said, ?It was an experience of getting back to the track?once I had travelled and now almost forgotten.?Indeed a motivating and learning experience it was.? And for Fr Pradeep, another enthusiastic participant, it was an experience of being reminded of his duty and responsibility to get trained in the use of the media for the service of the Church.
