In the true spirit of a Congressman Munir says disappointed but not disheartened
What does a MLA ticket aspirant do when he is denied the ticket? Set Plan B rolling that is, to defect to any political party which will give him the ticket. But Munir Rizwan is a rare exception to the rule.
?Munir Rizwan, a diehard Congressman did not hide his ambitions to contest from Jayanagar Assembly Constituency on the Congress ticket. But as it happened, it was a tough race notwithstanding that he had all the required attributes to get the ticket. Munir Rizwan has served in the party for over three decades, he had taken part in several election campaigns of veterans like SM Krishna, he has been a localite of Jayanagar having done his schooling and college there, he had led many local campaigns for road widening in 4th Block opposite Burial Grounds, and he was also involved in helping secure the release of thespian Dr Rajkumar from Veerappan, apart from ensuring the release of Kripakar and Senani.
?It was in this background that Munir Rizwan aimed to contest from Jayanagar. Last week, he left for Delhi to meet Congress Vice-President, Sri Rahul Gandhi, to convince him directly about giving him a ticket. Senior Congress leader BK Hariprasad reportedly arranged this high-profile meeting with Rahul Gandhi.
?However, all his efforts failed. Though disappointed, Munir declared that as a true Congressman, he would support whoever was the official candidate from Jayanagar. ?I will also extend my support for Congress candidates in neighbouring constituencies like BTM, Chickpet, Bommanahalli and Basavanagudi Constituency sincerely as all the four candidates are known to me well.?
?He also recalled his statement to TWB that in the spirit of a true Congressman, that even if he were not given a ticket, he would fully and sincerely support the official candidate with full zeal and enthusiasm. ?Finally, our goal is to ensure a victory for the Congress,? he declared.
?A passionately patriotic Muslim, Munir can be a trump card for the Congress in many constituencies in Bangalore. Brace up for a hyperactive election campaign in south Bangalore.
